The soul that must pass into eternity without Christ leaves behind a wreckage that is pitiful indeed. But so may a real Christian leave behind such wreckage. A life not lived on the firm foundation of divine truth invites disaster, no matter who lives it.

It is, in fact, a sin to refuse to lay up heavenly treasure when we are explicitly commanded to do so. Moreover, the effects on our hearts of not doing it will be calamitous. To claim that a man may trust Christ without knowing whether or not he has trusted Christ, is to articulate an absurd idea. Of course a man can know whether or not he believes in the offer of salvation.
